The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
Rating: a generous 2.5/5
Description:In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?
My Review: I have heard so many things about how great this book is so like many others I gave it a shot. I got it on audio book first and it was SLOOOWWWW!!! so I figured it might be better if I read it instead so I procured an ebook version and let me tell you not much better. Mary is this girl in a gated village that is surrounded by essentially zombies. The book begins with her mother getting bitten and released into the forest. Her brother is mad and turns her away and since she has not been spoken for by any male she must join the sisterhood which is becoming a nun. This books is really odd because there is so much kept from the people from the sisterhood and it eventually leads to the villages destruction and when Mary is thrust in to the forest with her now betrothed, Harry, and the boy she loves, Harry's brother, they don't know anything about where they are going or what is out there.I diligently read more than half of this book and then ended up skimming the rest because Mary, in my opinion, is just not that likable. she is very negative and seemingly selfish and I just did not like her.I don't plan on reading the rest of the series, which don't even contain the same characters anyway so if you must be my guest and if you do and don't like it just know that you heard it here first.
Happy Reading!!
